Ramona Jingru Wang | Multidisciplinary Artist & Lens-based Photographer
Ramona Jingru Wang is a New York City-based multidisciplinary artist, photographer, and UX designer who explores the intricate dynamics of care, connection, and identity. Born in China, Ramona Jingru Wang creates lens-based art that investigates how images intervene with reality and forge social bonds among people and spaces. She holds an MFA in photography from the Pratt Institute and studied at the International Center of Photography-Bard College. Her diverse portfolio includes the self-published newspaper "Family Album," which blurs the boundaries between private family snapshots and commercial fashion, and the interactive project AAPI Reading List, an affective response to anti-Asian hate crimes. Recognized for her innovative work, she was a winner of the 2023 Creator Labs Photo Fund by Aperture and Google and a 2024 LensCulture Emerging Artist Awards Jury's Pick. Her projects have been exhibited at prestigious venues such as the Museum of the City of New York and the Rockefeller Center. Ramona Jingru Wang’s practice also extends to digital realms through UX design and "cyber gardening," consistently focusing on building collective intimacy and challenging societal stereotypes. Through series like "My friends are cyborgs, but that’s okay," she explores Asian diasporic identity and hybridity. Her artistic vision is centered on nurturing care through the image-making process, collaborating with her subjects to create a shared haven and collective sanctuary.
