Tobias Groot: Multidisciplinary Visual Artist
Tobias Groot is a multidisciplinary visual artist who was born in Hoorn, The Netherlands, and is currently based in Berlin. His artistic practice explores the intricate relationship between the human body and evolving digital technologies. By integrating CGI, photography, and artificial intelligence, Tobias Groot develops complex digital conglomerations that address themes of intimacy, physicality, and transhumanism. His work frequently involves sophisticated computational processes, including the use of neural networks and algorithms to generate images and stories that question the nature of authorship and the human experience. Tobias Groot has gained significant recognition for his innovative approach, exhibiting at prominent international venues such as the ICA in London, KW Berlin, and Melkweg Expo in Amsterdam. He has also participated in major collaborations, notably with the studio of Christopher Kulendran Thomas for the project Another World. In addition to his exhibition history, Tobias Groot served as a Photographer in Residence at the University of Applied Sciences in Amsterdam and has worked with the Dutch National Opera & Ballet. His contributions to the art world were further acknowledged in 2021 when he received the Artist Start fund from the Mondriaan Fund.
