VOLCAN Art's creative work

Volcan Art Studio | Multidisciplinary Art and Contemporary Storytelling

Volcan Art Studio is a multidisciplinary creative duo composed of Rex and Edna Volcan, based in Notting Hill, London. Their collaborative practice is deeply rooted in examining human behavior and perceptions within contemporary society through the lens of global storytelling. By blending diverse cultural influences—Rex being Dutch and Edna Colombian—they create thought-provoking art that invites audiences to engage with complex societal dynamics. Rex brings sharp narrative insight from his background as an award-winning creative director in advertising, while Edna contributes a refined understanding of materiality and design from her extensive experience in luxury fashion. A significant milestone in their career includes participating in the 60th Venice Biennale in 2024, where they presented the "Offline: Refugee Remembrance Wall" in the Republic of Cameroon Pavilion. This series poignantly utilizes the "charging circle" symbol to reflect on the unfinished lives of refugees. Furthermore, their "ROADWORKS" series highlights a commitment to sustainability, utilizing salvaged materials like tar and urban debris to preserve history and personal narrative. Volcan Art Studio continues to challenge traditional art systems by reimagining discarded materials and offering critiques of overconsumption, ensuring their work remains a meaningful mirror to the forces shaping the world today.
