A graduate of Goldsmiths, University of London with First Class Honours in Fine Art, she has received significant international recognition, including selection for Bloomberg New Contemporaries in 2020. Zethu Maseko’s work often explores themes of ancestral heritage, spirituality, and the preservation of cultural memory, particularly through the lens of South African traditions and mythologies. Notable projects include 'Water Words', a series combining tapestry and sound, and the large-scale installation 'Where There Is Love and Water, Life Will Live'. Her use of traditional South African beadwork and weaving techniques serves as a physical method of archiving history and expressing complex identity. Zethu Maseko also frequently leads workshops, sharing her passion for transforming materials into functional and symbolic art. Her collaborative and research-driven approach has led to residencies in locations such as Cape Town and Johannesburg, further enriching her exploration of geography and belonging. By blending ancient crafts with contemporary media, Zethu Maseko creates a unique aesthetic language that speaks to both individual and collective experiences of repair and healing.
